Mary Tyler Moore
International Chairman
Juvenile Diabetes Foundation International
The Diabetes Research Foundation

For 23 years now, no one has done as much to advance the JDRF mission as International Chairman Mary Tyler Moore. To recognize all that she has given to JDRF and to celebrate her 70th birthday year, JDRF has created the "Forever Moore" research initiative in her honor. The "Forever Moore" research initiative will support JDRF's Academic Research & Development and Clinical Development programs, whose purpose is to do all the things that science and experience tell us we must to quickly translate basic research advances into new, life-changing treatments and cures for people with type 1 diabetes and its complications. Mary calls this turning "promising research" into "promises kept" to our loved ones with type 1. The "Forever Moore" research initiative was unveiled in a surprise announcement in November at the 35th Annual Promise Ball of the New York City Chapter, where Mary was honored for her unmatched dedication to finding a cure. Funds raised that evening have been directed to the new initiative, and JDRF is reaching out to others within the JDRF family to add their support of this mission critical effort. We hope you will consider joining us in saluting Mary in this way. Supporting the "Forever Moore" initiative is a wonderful way to thank Mary for her contributions while strengthening JDRF's Academic Research & Development and Clinical Development programs that will turn promising research into your promises kept.

With your help, we are moving research from the laboratory bench to the patient's bedside, translating scientific advances into longer, healthier lives for those with diabetes. With your help, we are moving closer to our goal....a cure for diabetes and its complications.

Mary Tyler Moore testifying before the U.S. Senate Committee on Government Affairs on the human societal costs of diabetes and the urgent need for continued federal type 1 diabetes research funding.

On June 22, 1999 Mary Tyler Moore lead 100 children to Washington D.C. and asked lawmakers to increase funding to find a cure for diabetes. You might wonder why this seems so important. For one thing diabetes kills one American every three minutes....now don't you think that is reason enough to fight for more funding? If you would like to see more statistics about diabetes go to the

The mission of the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation is to find a cure for diabetes.

Diabetes kills one American every three minutes. It affects children and adults, both genders, every race and ethnic group and leaves a vicious imprint on those who suffer from it and on those who love them. Unfortunately, according to a nationwide survey by Juvenile Diabetes Foundation International, 75% of American do not know how deadly the disease is, and 38% believe that either insulin cures diabetes or makes it harmless or they do not know what effect it has. Insulin is not a cure. Without daily injections of insulin people with diabetes would not be alive......remember
Insulin Is A Life-Line....Not A Cure!

The Juvenile Diabetes Foundation International

(JDF) was founded in 1970 by parents of children with diabetes. Their mission: to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research. JDF is organized on a business-world model. The organization's commitment to its mission totaled more than $75 million during the fiscal year ending June 2000, and that commitment has been dramatically increased to an allocation of $120 million for the fiscal year 2001. To meet the extraordinary costs of new human clinical trials, and to hasten still further the pace of research for a cure, JDF projects a commitment of $200 million per year by 2003.

JDF now provides more funds to diabetes research than any other nonprofit, nongovernmental health agency in the world. For more information visitJDF

Please join us in thanking Mary Tyler Moore for her ongoing commitment to finding a cure. Your donation will help us fund research vital to accelerating the discovery, development, and delivery of life-changing new therapies and cures to all those suffering from type 1 diabetes and its complications.
