All the years that I have had a website I have never had any information about myself. I have been to so many sites and enjoyed reading about others and the state in which they live. So I finally decided to tell a little about my state and who I am.
Sooooo, here goes........
A Special Note: Hurricane Katrina
I left what I had written in “Welcome to Mississippi” because I wanted to remember it the way it was. I know in my life-time our beautiful historic town will never be the same.
The 2005 Hurricane season will long be remembered both for the record-breaking number of early storms and the emergence of a powerful category 5 hurricane in the central Gulf of Mexico-Hurricane Katrina.
Hurricane Katrina strengthened into a powerful category 5 hurricane with sustained winds of 160 mph. It continued on its path towards the Louisiana-Mississippi coastline and made landfall as a category 4 storm with sustained winds of 145 mph and a tidal surge of 28 feet.
The beauty and the character of the landscape on the Mississippi Gulf Coast has changed drastically. The majestic oak trees that once stood so proud and tall are now striped naked. The ones left are still strong as they reach their limbs to the heavens. The stately antebellum homes and historic structures are either completely destroyed or had major damage. In some cases complete historic districts were wiped clean. All that is left in most areas are foundations and memories. The Mississippi Gulf Coast is returning to normal operations in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Our beautiful coast suffered immense damage, but momentum is growing as we continue the rebuilding phase and recovery.
Welcome to Mississippi
Here, the character of the Old South can still be felt. Where beauty and grace are still part of life. Majestic oak trees drip with Spanish moss, and stately antebellum homes stand reminiscent of days gone by. My favorite thing is a nightly walk on the beach. The warm, humid, sultry nights and the smell of the salty ocean engulf one, as the sand squeaks beneath ones feet.
My husband and I have always lived in Mississippi except for about 6 years. We moved to Colorado due to his job. It was a wonderful experience for our children. What we miss most about Colorado is the "SNOW", we loved it!
But there is nothing like coming back home....
Home to the thick smell of magnolias, wavering scent of jasmine and the beautiful view of Azaleas; most of all to family and friends.
Growing up in the South and living in the Bible belt, I grew up with a rich southern heritage and a strong faith in God. We were taught to say "yes mam' and no mam' and yes sir and no sir" which we passed on to our children. I know when we lived out west and I would say that to someone, it was almost an insult. Of course I didn’t mean it that way! It is just an expression of respect.

Warm summer sun, shine kindly here;
Warm southern wind, blow softly here;
Green sod above, lie light, lie light-
Good night, dear heart, good-night, good-night.
